I know a few of these.
Cloven hoofed neighbours.
Energetic and stubborn,
taking charge.
Nothing winters to mind,
does it?
You need each other in the cold
but want each other in the warmth.
The Greeks saw the annual cycle
of devastation and restoration
as the Mother's response
to the push and pull of
her Daughter torn from her,
all because of some seeds
and a bit of small print.
That checks out.
Pattern-seeking creatures,
aren't we?
Doing what we can
to spread our weight
evenly
on the hillside.
